Clarins has introduced the Double Serum (Hydric + Lipidic System), an age-control treatment effective on all signs of aging and with enhanced moisturizing capabilities, into the Canadian market after more than three years in research and development.
The new Double Serum combines two unique formulas, one water-based and the other oil-based, for a serum that targets and stimulates the five vital functions responsible for skin’s youthful appearance: hydration, nutrition, oxygenation, protection and regeneration. It is rich in 20 plant extracts, allowing each skin type to draw only what it needs from the serum, depending on its state.
The serum is ideal for all skin types beginning at age 25, and has a unique texture that combines the lightness of a gel with the comfort of a cream. The Double Serum has a fresh, refined fragrance developed by an Asian master perfumer.
Nathalie Issachar, director of marketing development and scientific communication at Clarins, attributes part of the product’s effectiveness to the innovative design of the bottle. Having water on one side and oil on the other allows for a higher proportion of oil to be used, without risking the ingredients incompatibility.
“Conversely to what people think, to moisturize the skin you don’t need a lot of water,” Issachar said at a presentation in Toronto, in October. “Instead, you need to have water and oil, because when you put water on your skin and it evaporates, it is further dehydrating the skin.”
Issachar said a drawback of most serums currently available is their light, fluid texture, which is only achievable through having a very high proportion of water and limited oil.
Guests at Clarins’ presentation in Toronto were given an opportunity to sample the Double Serum before it was available.
Issachar said that the Double Serum had a lengthy development phase. It took a while to find the right active molecule and the right packaging, but it was these innovations and the underlying science that made this product so leading edge.

After testing more than 400 women, Double Serum was shown to be effective on all signs of aging. The majority experienced firmer skin, reduced wrinkles, less visible pores and a more even complexion. In addition, findings from satisfaction tests showed that 90 per cent of women found Clarins Double Serum to be more effective than other serums.
Issachar added that anti-aging serums are also “a big trend in North America.”
The Double Serum will be available in Canadian stores in February 2013.
