Tell us about your first blog post. Three years ago. It was just about me, being myself. I was readying the world for Jay Strut.
How did your blogger career grow? I had a great inspiration – Bryan Boy. I thought of him as someone who was expressing himself on an online platform. There was really great feedback coming in from what he was doing. I really wanted to know that there are other people around the world who will acknowledge what I’m doing, and say “Oh my god! That’s cool!” I like to know that there are other people I have common ground with.
Who is your fashion icon? Kate Lanphear. I’m so in love with her! She’s effortlessly edgy.
Describe your style in one word. Just “Strut”.
What is your favourite store anywhere in the world? The Webster Miami on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach. I also really like Fashionably Yours and happen to work there – it’s lke me being in my element!
Who is your favourite Canadian designer? Sid Neigum for men. There is so much variety in his collection, but it’s still under the same aesthetic. For womenswear, I’m a big fan of Amanda Lew Kee. She’s a really good friend of mine, but I’m not saying that because she’s a friend. She takes everything really seriously. Amanda gets outside her boundaries every season and I love that about her.
If you were reborn who would you be? Myself! I don’t have any complains in my life. I’m happy with who I am.
What is the craziest fashion-related thing you’ve ever done? The bitchiest was walking out of a runway show. It was the first show of the week, two seasons ago at the Ex. Some of the PR representatives were so rude. I look really young and people get too comfortable with me. They sometimes think they can assert themselves in a certain manner with me that I don’t appreciate.
If you had to wear one thing for a whole year what would it be? I just got this amazing monkey fur jacket. It’s gorgeous. I would wear it all year, all day, all night. I would wear it to sleep.
What are your favourite 10 items in your closet? Hermes Collier De Chien bracelet, Hermes Medor watch, Hermes Clic Clac bangle, Alexander Wang knit cardigan, Alexander Wang black poncho, favourite old Doc Marten boots, Balmain pants, Dad’s T-shirt, Rick Owens tank top, Burberry bottoms.
