Street style: Copenhagen Fashion Week, spring/summer 2017

August 11, 2016

It’s small but mighty. Copenhagen Fashion Week might host a smaller event than Paris or Milan, but their three-day style extravaganza is always memorable, both on and off the runway.

In total, 29 designers are presenting their spring/summer 2017 collections at CPFW this season. Hosted every February and August, this is the Nordic Region’s largest fashion event. In addition to runway shows of both Danish and international designers, CPFW hosts two trade fairs that include 2,000 brands.

Between 30,000 and 40,000 people attend the event every season, with 40 per cent coming from other countries.

Outside the tents, you will spot designers, models, celebrities, royal families (Princess Mary was in attendance on Wednesday) and even politicians. In fact, it’s a tradition for prominent politicians to officially open the event. Over the years, this has ranged from various ministers to the Copenhagen Lord Mayor Frank Jensen.

According to CPFW, “Scandinavian fashion is known for its unique take on design, which marries modern elegance to playful aesthetics and conceptions of dress.” This aesthetic is widely adopted by attendees as well, and can be seen in the street style outside the venue.
