To finish off the annual FFWD Advertising Week in style, a modern speakeasy was created in the heart of downtown Toronto to hold this year’s Gatsby-themed Ad Ball.

The Virgin Mobile Mod Club, typically a popular student club, was transformed into an elegant venue with crystal chandeliers and festive lighting, while keeping the underground feel that was archetypal of a 1920s club.

Ad Ball’s attendance continues to grow year after year.

For a little over $100 per ticket, guests enjoyed a free flowing open bar and delicious hors d’oeuvres, including mini fried chicken bits with a dollop of homemade sauce on top that made your mouth water.

Needless to say the advertising community pulled out all the stops when it came to dressing for the occasion. Costumes ranged from a simple black dress paired with long vintage style pearls, to extremely elaborate pieces, including a fully sequined gown that looked like it literally came from the 20s via a vintage shop, paired with a beaded headdress and finished with hair in authentic finger waves.

Although many people attend the event to network, schmoozing was also paired with entertainment. An aerialist, electric violinist and a French Connection fashion show where several advertising CEOs were amongst the models, rounded out the evening quite well.

From last year’s James Bond theme to this year’s Gatsby, the Ad Ball never ceases to inspire its guests to be transformed into another time and another world. We just wonder what the next year may bring…
