On April 30, the Aria Ballroom at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto bloomed into a lavish garden of generosity, conversation and community, as more than 400 guests gathered for the 13th annual Can You Do Lunch? fundraiser. Hosted by the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR), this elegant affair was a sold-out success—equal parts stylish luncheon and impassioned movement—uniting some of Toronto’s most philanthropic hearts in the fight to end HIV in Canada.
The room was nothing short of stunning. Lush floral arrangements brought a sense of springtime renewal into the ballroom, echoing the event’s theme of hope and transformation. Attendees arrived dressed to impress, sipping cocktails and mingling under the warm glow of crystal chandeliers as they admired the tablescapes and silent auction offerings displayed around the room. The Four Seasons culinary team delivered a beautifully curated seasonal lunch that not only satisfied the senses but set the tone for an afternoon filled with purpose.
The event was more than just a feast for the eyes and palate—it offered food for thought as well. One of the most impactful moments came during a panel discussion on HIV and ageing, a topic too often underrepresented. Moderated by the always eloquent Valerie Pringle, CANFAR’s National Spokesperson, the panel included advocates, researchers and individuals living with HIV, who spoke candidly about their lived experiences and the evolving medical landscape. Their vulnerability and wisdom underscored the importance of continued research and community support as we work toward eliminating stigma and improving long-term health outcomes.
Then came the entertainment portion—or should we say, the fabulous frenzy—as two Canadian icons took the stage to host the live auction. Jeanne Beker, legendary fashion journalist and style maven, teamed up with the always-energetic radio host and personality Mike Chalut. The duo was electric. Their chemistry lit up the room, with Jeanne’s polished flair and Mike’s quick wit coaxing open wallets and winning hearts. Whether it was a luxury travel package or a coveted fashion experience, bids flew fast and furious as laughter and applause rippled through the ballroom.
What makes Can You Do Lunch? so special isn’t just the glamour—it’s the heart. Since its inception, the event has raised vital funds for CANFAR’s innovative HIV research and community initiatives across the country. The 2025 edition stayed true to that mission, pushing boundaries and challenging guests to see the tangible impact of their support. Every ticket purchased, every hand raised during the auction, every shared story—all of it contributed to a greater purpose.
As guests stepped out into the spring air, many of them lingered in the lobby, chatting and connecting—proof that this wasn’t just a lunch. It was a movement, a message and a moment. And really, when a cause is this important—can you do lunch? The answer is a resounding yes.
