MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS, spring/summer 2025: a fusion of lightness and artistic vision

October 22, 2024

The much-anticipated MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS Spring 2025 collection was unveiled last month in grand style at the Palais de Chaillot during Paris Fashion Week. Following a successful debut at Milan Fashion Week earlier in the year, the collection marks a vibrant contrast to the brand’s dramatic, all-black fall/winter 2024 line, presenting a light and art-infused vision for the upcoming season.

This time, the collection embraces white as the dominant base, interspersed with black accents and delicate hints of pastel colours, including pistachio and pastel lemon. These soft tones bring a sense of renewal and optimism to the designs. The collection was further highlighted by striking black and gold paint strokes on white fabrics, directly inspired by the abstract expressionism of Hans Hartung, a German-Franco lyrical abstractionist known for his bold, gestural work.

The runway show crescendoed with a striking nod to American Pop-Art from the 1960s. The closing series featured geometric shift dresses in jacquard fabric, with a playful twist — each dress incorporated a portrait of YOSHIKI, paying homage to the creative force behind the label. These designs were simple yet infused with cultural and personal symbolism, offering a delightful blend of art, fashion, and individuality.

At the heart of MAISON YOSHIKI is a commitment to genderless, glamorous design. The spring/summer 2025 collection included 33 distinct looks, all of which maintained YOSHIKI’s distinctive fusion of fashion, design and lifestyle. The collection continued to explore themes of lightness and modernity, but with an artistic and conceptual edge that resonated throughout the show.

The materials used in the collection were nothing short of luxurious, showcasing the label’s commitment to French craftsmanship and quality. From thick cotton twill to an elegant cotton-linen blend tweed with iridescent details, and from double silk organza to Ruschel knit lace with textured richness, the fabrics embodied both opulence and innovation. These premium textiles allowed the garments to take on a structured yet ethereal quality, creating a fresh, modern silhouette with bold stitching and contrasting black zippers.

Adding to the sartorial story, YOSHIKI’s ongoing exploration of kimono design — something he’s developed since the launch of his fashion line Yoshikimono in 2011 — was woven throughout the collection. Subtle references to the traditional Japanese garment were reinterpreted in a thoroughly contemporary and international context, bringing a unique depth to the otherwise sleek, futuristic designs.

No detail was overlooked in this meticulously curated collection. The jewelry, designed exclusively for MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS by Juana Martín, further elevated the looks. Featuring oversized, whimsical charms in the shape of musical notes and letters, crafted from 14K gold, the jewelry was a playful yet luxurious addition, reflecting YOSHIKI’s own ties to music and creativity.

In essence, the spring/summer 2025 collection from MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS was an artistic exploration of contrasts — light versus dark, tradition versus modernity, and minimalism versus bold expression. YOSHIKI’s unique vision once again pushed boundaries, melding the worlds of fashion, art and lifestyle in a truly innovative way. This collection confirmed MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS as a trailblazer in both the luxury fashion industry and the evolution of genderless design, setting a captivating precedent for the seasons to come.
