The Hawaiian Island of Kauai is home to some of the most iconic film sets in the world – from Avatar to The Descendants, George of the Jungle to South Pacific, and from its most famous, Jurassic Park, to its most recent, Disney’s Jungle Cruise. The reason for its iconic status in Hollywood is mainly due to Kauai’s incredible landscapes of canyons, steep cliffs, rugged coastline and white sand beaches. This also means that the best thing to see on Kauai … is Kauai itself. And from every angle possible.
Kauai’s other-worldly coastline can be appreciated one of two ways: by air or by sea. When we discovered Capt. Andy’s Sailing Adventures, our decision was made in an instant.
For over 40 years, Captain Andy has offered visitors to Kauai the smoothest and most glamorous tours of the island. For our first-ever visit to Kauai we chose his Star Na Pali Dinner Sunset Sail aboard a 65′ Star Class Luxury Catamaran. Heading up North on the Na Pali coastline, we were gifted views of stunning beaches (some isolated, some with a few travelers who hiked quite a distance to reach it), lava formations and indescribable coastline. We chased waterfalls and even gorgeous spinner dolphins who love to come out and play that time of day.
When we reached the Na Pali Coast, it was time to open the bar and dinner was served, as we sailed downwind. Our chef prepared filet mignon, grilled shrimp and plenty of vegetables, and dinner time gave us the opportunity to enjoy the sail in the company of new friends.
Our time spent aboard Capt. Andy’s Catamaran culminated in a peaceful ride back to the harbour to catch the sun as it epically set into the Pacific, with a delicious Mai Tai in hand.
FAJO Pro Tip: During your ride, enjoy some time in the seating on the upper deck right by the Captain. Many didn’t know it was there, and it was a great way to get to chat with the friendly crew as we sailed away!
