After the world-wide success of the Immersive Van Gogh’s show, Lighthouse Immersive is presenting the sequel to their blockbuster. The New Immersive Van Gogh: The Next Chapter gets its Canadian premiere this week in Toronto. Yesterday, FAJO‘s team was among the select media who were the first in the country to experience this new exhibition.
How is it different from the original show, one might ask. A new curator of the production, Marco Generoso Realino, CEO of Italian company Visioni Srl, states that, “This production seeks to trace Van Gogh’s artistic evolution through the significant stages and locations of his life.”
The show, which lasts 47 minutes, takes viewers on a journey from Vincent Van Gogh’s childhood in Nuenen in the Netherlands to Antwerp in Belgium, to sizzling and dazzling Paris, France during the Belle Epoche and the Universal Exhibition. And, of course, Arles, Saint-Remy and Auvers-Sur-Oise, where he created some of his most renowned masterpieces.
The new show’s goal is to portray the personal world of Van Gogh and his inner turmoils that led to his artistic expression. There is also a cultural and historical context for his works, like posters of his contemporaries, such as Toulouse-Lautrec and Alphonse Mucha, or building of the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.
Each scene of the show reveals the brilliance of Van Gogh’s work, illuminating his passion for nature, his struggles with mental health and his enduring legacy as an immortal artist. From iconic sunflowers to famous landscapes and recognizable faces on the portraits, the new show features digital projections of 140 of his masterpieces, all in one place at Lighthouse Artspace in Toronto.
