August 29, 2024

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation has officially opened its new Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists and Resumes In-Person Programs. This new center, named in honour of fellow member and actor Meryl Streep, is located on the Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.

Designed with the latest technology and equipment, the Center features several state-of-the-art facilities named after major supporters, including the Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson Screening Room, a 100-seat venue with a 200-inch 4K cinema screen and immersive sound for film and TV screenings. The Nicole Kidman Green Room offers a stylish space for panelists, while the Leonardo DiCaprio On-Camera Studio provides actors with professional self-tape recording and feedback. The upgraded Don LaFontaine Voiceover Lab offers advanced audio technology for voice actors. The Center also includes a versatile classroom for industry-led sessions on various topics, supporting a collaborative learning environment.

Meryl Streep has been the most philanthropic donor in the Foundation since it began and the Center wanted to acknowledge her exceptional charitable contributions to the Foundation, especially with its Emergency Financial Assistance Program for performing artists in urgent need. It was the Foundation’s Board that chose to honour her with the dedication of the new Los Angeles facility.

The President and Chairman of the Board of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Courtney B. Vance, expressed that, “In recent years when serious crises struck our community, Meryl stepped up immediately to help lift up performers who needed it most. Naming our new Center in her honour is our way of expressing gratitude for her unwavering commitment and generosity, as well as embodying the excellence she exemplifies in our industry.”

The Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists is designed to support a wide range of free educational and career-building programs, aimed at helping SAG-AFTRA artists enhance their skills and advance their careers. It also houses the Foundation’s assistance programs and offices. Additionally, the Center is available for third-party rentals, making it an ideal venue for industry screenings, premieres, FYC events, table reads, corporate gatherings and more.

SAG-AFTRA members are encouraged to explore all the Center has to offer by creating a member profile and signing up for programs on Foundation’s website
