In a sonnet, “volta” is the turn of thought or argument: in Petrarchan or Italian sonnets it occurs between the octave and the sestet, and in Shakespearean or English — before the final couplet.
The theme of our latest editorial — that is featured on the cover of The Global Issue — reflects this concept.
The photoshoot was sent to us by a team in Toronto who were inspired by model Sam Rayner’s natural ability to move boldly, with attitude and seduction.
The original concept was to photograph a soft beauty story, but Sam’s personality on set took the shoot in another direction. Inspired by her movement, and the contrasting textures of wardrobe and glam, photographer Jennifer Goren chose to use harsh, directional light to capture the mood and strength that became “Volta”.
The project is exclusively unveiled in FAJO this month and features some of our favourite Canadian and international fashion designers and brands!
