Five tips for finding the perfect sunnies

July 28, 2021

The sun is shining and you’re squinting! This means you’re risking headaches, eye strain and wrinkles all because you didn’t think to pick up a pair of sunglasses. On sunny days, we wear sunscreen and hats to protect our scalp and skin. But we should also be protecting our eyes and the best way to do so is with sunglasses that have a high UV rating.

The right sunglasses can be bought from the best optometrist in your local area. If you’re struggling to find the right ones though, we’ve got 5 tips to help you.

  1. Choosing sunglasses with 100% UVA block is a good first step. You’ll stop squinting this way and avoid a headache!
  2. Think about the lens color. You shouldn’t just choose the darkest sunglasses. Amber lenses work really well in hazy conditions and grey shades can offer support to drivers as they provide the best colour perception. Brown retains the same benefits as grey lenses but removes blue light, too, which amps the contrast and ensures depth of perception.
  3. Consider the fit. Balance is so important when it comes to your sunglasses and they have to fit your eyes properly. You want to ensure the most flattering fit, too. Speak to your optometrist and choose sunglasses that are balanced well on your face without being too tight or too tilted from one side to the other.
  4. Choose the glasses that match your lifestyle. Pick those with scratch-resistant lenses and bendy frames, so that any accidents won’t snap them.
  5. Consider the cost. You can buy sunglasses that fit your budget, but it’s smarter to have a budget before you go shopping. While it’s true that the better the make, the higher the cost, you can still find some great designers that won’t break the bank.

Take the time to ensure you are choosing well before you go and get your eyes tested. It’s good to have an idea of what you’re looking for before you go shopping.
