Artist and journalist Laura Cano recently presented her latest art exhibition in Madrid, titled “Origen” (Origin). Cano, who is originally from Bilbao and Seville, has been painting all her life and has been doing so professionally for the last three years. Her first exhibition “Mímesis” was successfully received by both public and critics, and led to Cano being included in Forbes as part of the 100 most creative people in the Business World in 2021.
“Origen” is the collaboration between Cano and several other artists: Alex F. Banegas with whom she also presented “Mímesis”, Pilar Cano (Santavanitas) who is an artist from Córdoba living in Hong Kong, and Cecilia Charlton who is a London-based New York artist that Cano met during an artist residency in Tuscany.
This multimedia art showcase highlights the desire to explore a theatrical and dreamlike universe, bordering on magical realism, with fantastic animals and surreal creatures that narratively enhance the figurative portrait, which was the starting point for everything else. This presentation synthesizes the natural elements that are typically part of the archetypal representations of life and death, such as heaven and hell.
