New Year, enhanced you: a woman’s guide to revitalizing in 2024

December 29, 2023

As the calendar flips to 2024, it’s time to embrace new beginnings and refresh our approach to beauty, health and wellness. As a woman dedicated to personal growth, I’ve curated a list of resolutions that not only resonate with my journey but could also inspire others seeking a happier, healthier, more vibrant self. Read on for how I plan to revitalize myself in the New Year and simple ways to do so.

1. Drink more water

This year, I’m making a conscious effort to drink more water (third time or … 10th time is the charm, right?). It’s simple, yet its impact on skin, energy and overall health is profound. Carrying an expensive and beautiful reusable water bottle, and setting calendar reminders has been my game plan. Hydration is the foundation of wellness, and I’m here for it.

2. Quality sleep for quality life

Gone are the days of glorifying sleep deprivation. In 2024, I’m prioritizing quality sleep. This means establishing a calming pre-sleep routine, limiting screen time before bed, reducing carbs in the evening and creating a sleep-conducive environment. Good sleep is a non-negotiable for a healthy life. Everything good follows a solid night’s rest — it gives you zero excuse to not achieve all of the wonderful things you want to in life because you’re “too tired”.

3. Embrace your own natural beauty

This year is all about loving and accepting myself as I am. I have had a tough time navigating my relationship with makeup since pandemic lockdowns. I used to feel so sexy and beautiful with a heavy makeup routine, and after lockdowns and massively reducing the frequency and amount of makeup I wear, I have struggled redefining what makes me feel my best. I’m trying to work on ways that make me feel more attractive without layering on makeup, and I have discovered a few tips accidentally this year I plan on amping up in 2024. I’m indulging in epic skincare routines that celebrate my natural beauty — the glowier I look, the prettier I feel. I have incorporated self-tanner on to my face (in addition to my body, of course!) for that sun-kissed glow, and have become obsessed with how my face looks after a hot yoga session … More of all of this in 2024!

4. Unplugging to reconnect

In our digitally saturated world, unplugging is vital, and it’s so tricky working as a social media content creator and beauty influencer. We get caught up in compare-despair, and there’s literally science backing how social media and phone addictions mimic biological effects of substance addiction and withdrawal. I’m dedicating specific times to disconnect from technology to reconnect with myself and my surroundings (specifically, no phone time within my first hour of waking to set the tone of the day).

5. Redefining my relationship with food

This year is about swapping cheap calories for nourishing alternatives without compromising on taste, and certainly not enjoyment. It’s about pairing exceptional foods with memorable experiences or company, transforming eating into a holistic, joyful experience. As someone who has spent decades hating herself for enjoying bags of chips and pints of ice cream (like just about every other millennial woman), I have been working hard on food freedom and have learned that stretching your caloric mileage via opting for a juicy restaurant steak with potatoes au gratin, or having a phenomenal dessert from a renowned pastry chef, is the way to go. If you’re on a budget (let’s be real, I am too!) this is not always sustainable — so opt for baking or cooking yourself an indulgent treat to kill two birds with one stone, and learn a new recipe or hobby rather than ordering from Uber Eats.

6. Bidding Adieu to shapewear

2024 for me is about comfort and confidence in my own skin. I went to Italy this summer and it was a huge win for me when I was completely happy passing on the stuffing-myself-like-a-sausage vibe in the 39 degree roman weather — and something I’d like to continue regardless of the heat. Phasing out shapewear and embracing my natural body shape is a step towards self-acceptance and love, without having to break my nails in the bathroom trying to un-trap my body. This is a trickier one, as self-love and body acceptance are hard for most women, and oscillate depending on a million factors, hourly … but they will surely be on my radar of awareness for the new year.

7. Joy in movement

Exercise shouldn’t be a chore, and especially not a form of self-punishment. Somehow, at 34-years-old earlier this year, this has clicked for me. There is a shift from “I must work off these calories” or “I must work out to change my body” to “Let’s see what amazing new things my body can do today”. This has been an absolute game changer for compliance, consistency, mood and, of course, enjoyment of exercise. In 2024, I’m finding joy in activities that accelerate my heart rate and uplift my spirit. Be it dance classes, taking up boxing, or exploring new sports: the goal is to move with joy and fun, so you don’t even realize it’s exercise.

8. Supplementing for health

As a woman on the go with a full-time job, a beauty team, side hustles, having loads of hobbies and being a single dog mom, nourishing myself with a perfectly balanced diet can be super tricky. I started taking a wonderful pre-packaged supplements regime with Psirenity Health that allows you to get adequate dosing of multi vitamins (spoiler alert, you can’t get this in 1 multi vitamin pill a day, you need closer to a dozen), and within a matter of days I was blown away by the uptick in my energy and vitality. Understanding what my body needs and fulfilling those requirements with quality supplements is my strategy for a well-nourished body and mind in the new year.

9. Embracing Femininity

This year, I’m focusing on tapping into my feminine energy more deeply — something that has always been a struggle for me as an independent, alpha female. It’s about honouring my emotions, intuition and unique strengths as a woman, not being afraid to hide these in business and romantic settings, and using them as a source of power. To me, femininity is about grace, generosity, nurturing natures and connection to your body. As I continue to work on all of these things, I have discovered dance has helped me tap into my feminine, big time. Finding my confidence and sexiness through Salsa dancing at Steps Dance Studio via my ability to move my body in playful and sassy ways, and smile and engage with a leader and new people, has helped me leaps and bounds with my progress on my journey to finding the divine goddess within. Heels classes, and maybe even pole dancing or Burlesque classes, are in my future.

10. Solo Travel Adventures

Lastly, I’m embarking on solo travel. Exploring new places alone is not just about the destinations, but also about self-discovery and independence. It’s a journey to internal freedom and confidence — something I experienced during the pandemic on a trip to Vancouver that was scary, lonely, inspirational, magical and beautiful. I have been afraid to do it again even though it was the best experience of my life … and am considering this my promise to myself, and our readers, that I will do it again this year and report back to you on the update.

In conclusion, 2024 is about being kinder to myself, embracing natural beauty, and finding joy in the little things. These resolutions aren’t just goals but pathways to a more fulfilled, happier me, and I hope some of you find at least a bit of value in this slightly vulnerable article and leverage some of these practices and goals for yourselves — because women at their best make the world a better place. Here’s to a revitalizing year ahead!
