Perhaps the most badass runway presentation at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) this year was by AREA on Sept.6.
Founded in 2014 by Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Fogg, AREA is a fashion and accessories design studio that specializes in quality craftsmanship, textile development and innovative embellishments. Since its launch a decade ago, AREA has garnered a cult following with their modern and timeless take on beauty and glamour.
The runway showcased creativity to the maximum and, for this 10-year-anniversary show, the designers implemented the “see now, buy now concept”.
Some of their designs for fall/winter 2024, included exploring the concept of anonymity by transforming name plates into face shields, cutting jersey into spaghetti-like fringes (that piece was also famously worn by Katy Perry at the VMAs a few days later!), laser-cut hands from printed nylon taffeta, and much more. AREA also collaborated with Tinder to debut an exclusive T-shirt on the runway, called “Bans Off Our Bodies”. The design was meant to draw attention to the “millions of people of reproductive potential who face bans to the care they need.”
There were also many supermodels on the runway, and it was lovely to spot Canadian supermodel Yasmin Warsame among them!
We tracked the show from behind-the-scenes to the practice walk to the final presentation. Here are some of the highlights.
