Toronto’s historic castle Casa Loma opens its gardens for another season of music on Mondays throughout this season. “Symphony in the Garden” launched on June 5 and will run until September 4.
On the opening day, FAJO had the opportunity to experience the event first-hand. The doors open at 5 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30. This offers enough time to save seats in the pavilion (as they are on a first come, first serve basis), wander around the gardens, admire the skyline of the city, take photos around the gorgeous historical settings and treat yourself to some wine or cocktails, or even small bites. There is also an option to get a table in the garden for dinner and stay for the music. Casa Loma also offers a BlueBlood VIP Experience, priced at $245 per person (plus applicable taxes and gratuities). It includes Prix Fixe dinner at BlueBlood Steakhouse and reserved seats in the Glass Pavilion for the performance.
“Symphony in the Garden” is performed by an orchestra under the artistic direction of Maestro Paolo Busato. Busato studied in France, Italy, England, Canada and the U.S., earning his Master’s of Music and a Prix d’Excellence from Paris: the highest academic honour in organ performance in Europe. The Maestro is an artistic director and conductor of Casa Loma Symphony Orchestra and he also oversees the Italian Canadian Symphony Orchestra. He toured the world, performed for heads of state and church and now is back in Toronto. Busato is a very charismatic and energetic man, who puts his soul in the performance from the first touches of his piano.
On June 5, the theme was “Crooning Classics” with the greatest hits of Frank Sinatra and other jazz classics. The audience enjoyed the vocals of tenor Joey Niceforo and soprano Sara Papini, who have been friends since childhood and the audience could feel how comfortable the performers were, while doing duets.
It was a charming and delightful night. This is truly a must-see event for all the residents and visitors of Toronto this summer.
You can check the schedule for the season and get your tickets on the Casa Loma Symphony in the Gardens page.
