When the Ballroom Bowl opened in Yorkville, Toronto a few months ago, we could tell right away that it would be a fun experience for all ages. After we attended the official opening party, we decided to revisit the space several times.
Since then, we have been there 4 times: once — for our Father’s Day gift guide review, twice — for their popular disco experience (Thursday Night Strikes, ’70s Bowling Party), and once for a large children’s birthday that one of our editors organized for her son. This means that we’ve had a chance to experience the space with different groups, both in terms of size and age ranges — and we must say: it’s fun no matter who you go with, on what day you are there and for what purpose!
So what are the things we love most about this place? The location is very convenient and is right in the heart of southern Yorkville, at Yonge and Bloor. Tucked away in one of the buildings, you take the escalator down and voilà: you have arrived in a lovely space that offers a very upscale bowling experience.
Whether you are coming with a bunch of kids, a smaller family group or a gathering of all your adult friends, the menu options at the Ballroom Bowl are vast and suitable for a variety of tastes.
For children, we recommend ordering the Margarita pizza (which they will absolutely love) and the Wings (which are available in the 1 lb or 2 lbs sizes and feature a choice of two different sauces or rubs that can be picked from a list of six).
For adults, the Artichoke and White Bean Hummus is delicious, as is The Burger (chuck, smashed, double-stacked, American cheese, crips pickles, lettuce and Ten Pin sauce — lovely!). The alternative is a vegetarian Viva L’Burger option. The Fish & Chips option is also quite large, if you are craving something deep fried. Importantly, the menu features vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan dishes.
In terms of drinks, we recommend one of the restaurant’s rosé wines or the Blue Me Away cocktail (Absolut Raspberri, blue curacao, lemon and white cranberry — it’s a perfect combination for a summer drink). And who can say no to the Mexpresso Martini?
And then, of course, comes the bowling! We recommend booking your dinner first, so you could enjoy it and relax — then, get competitive with your companions and see who can score the most. The bowling alleys are neat and pretty, with bright lights and interactive screens. Time will go by fast, while you take turns and form teams, or cheer for each other.
The Yorkville Bowl is a fabulous way to spend an evening, no matter what company or mood you are in. You’ll find that it’s truly a great place to make memories together!
