Every brand has a story. The renowned French luxury fashion house Balmain was founded almost 80 years ago in 1945. Fast forward three decades, when Balmain Hair was created in 1974. 

Since then, Balmain Hair has been one of the world’s leaders in combining hair essentials with the latest catwalk trends. The collections are inspired by the Balmain Paris fashion house and backstage secrets. They mirror all a woman needs to create the ultimate runway-inspired looks. 

I remember trying out Balmain’s shampoo for the first time about 5 years ago. The results were exceptional: my very thick, unruly hair was smooth and silky after just one wash.

Fast forward to this year, when I received two Balmain beauty boxes that I’m pleased to review today.

The first one arrived this summer, and was sent in celebration and commemoration of Balmain Hair’s 50th anniversary. This was a curated selection of products that represented the essence of Balmain Hair. As a testament to the brand’s enduring commitment to excellence, the DNA Collection serves as proof of years of expertise, refining the art of haircare and styling. There are 8 products in this collection that are all worth highlighting:

1. Couleurs Couture Shampoo restores and gently cleanses coloured, damaged and over-processed hair. Enriched with a unique blend of argan elixir, silk and cashmere protein (how cool is that?), it deeply nourishes and strengthens the hair. The UV shields enhance colour longevity.
2. Couleurs Couture Conditioner is a lovely complement to the shampoo. It intensely moisturizes, nourishes, detangles and strengthens hair deeply from within. Enriched with the same three key ingredients as the shampoo, it makes the hair soft and shiny.
3. Couleurs Couture Mask is also part of this line. Reminiscent of a hair spa treatment, it is enriched with a powerful blend of succinic acid, and again: argan elixir, silk and cashmere protein. The mask will strengthen and protect the hair structure. It also enhances colour longevity and makes the hair very soft.
4. Overnight Repair Serum is also part of the DNA Collection. This is Balmain Hair’s iconic product that serves as an intensive overnight repair treatment. Its unique concentrated formula repairs and strengthens the hair. Enriched with natural oils and extracts, the serum reduces visible signs of damaged hair and protects the hair against frizz and split ends. 
5. Argan Moisturizing Elixir is up next on the list and, as expected, is a rejuvenative pure organic argan oil that is infused with a unique blend of oils and minerals. This line is all about making your hair healthy, so the elixir’s job is to hydrate, moisturize and soften, increase elasticity and add natural shine. Like the Serum, it also revives dry, damaged hair and split ends, and reduces frizz.
6. Texturizing Salt Spray is as dreamy as it sounds. This is one of my favourite products from the collection and it’s a sea salt-based styling product. It adds definition, texture and body, and gives the hair a flexible hold and control. Enriched with silk protein and argan oil, it ensures moisture balance. This product is also humidity resistant, so if you have a vacation coming up: it’s a must-have!
7. Texturizing Volume Spray is the go-to if you are looking for a versatile spray that gives hair a lift from the roots, for extra volume. It’s suitable for everyday use, by the way.
8. Last but certainly not least, my other favourite product from this collection: the Signature Hair Perfume. The scent is just exceptional. It’s like a blend of your favourite shampoo and fragrance and the beach, all in one. The perfume is also infused with silk protein and argan elixir in order to nourish, repair and protect the hair.

If you’re looking for a six-month investment in your hair, I recommend purchasing the entire line. It’s a fantastic self-care gift but also a brilliant present for someone special, particularly with the holiday season ahead. This entire line retails for a total of $965. Now that your hair is well taken care of, let’s shift our attention to the second collection from Balmain Hair that I reviewed recently. This one focuses on hair accessories and is holiday-themed, but also commemorating the brand’s 50th anniversary. The line includes iconic pieces from previous collections that have a new, celebratory look. It also features new, exclusive items. 

Each limited edition piece draws inspiration from the iconic Balmain print, featuring a white aesthetic that is accentuated by delicate gold touches. 

This particular collection consists of 5 items:

1. White Leather Elastique Pour Cheveux is designed with genuine white leather. It’s the perfect piece to add to any ponytail, whether worn with a formal or very casual look.
2. White Leather Barette Pour Cheveux Large is crafted from genuine napa leather with the 18k gold-plated B logo. This barette is the representation of refined design, and is perfect for half updos or low ponytails.
3. Puffed White Leather Headband is another stunning piece from this collection. This headband has a comfortable fit and a stylish look. It would pair fabulously with the hair down.
4. Large Pearl Clip is also lovely. It features gold detailing and would complement any hair colour. It also caters well to any hair type, from thin to thick, to very voluminous.
5. Last but certainly not least, is the Acetate Headband. Constructed from premium white cellulose acetate, this headband offers durability but also a sleek, polished finish to any hairstyle. What sets this piece apart is the iconic Balmain logo that runs across it.
