On Monday, Sept. 12, between TIFF premieres and film after-parties, 12 notable Canadian women in film were honoured by Birks Diamonds and Telefilm Canada. The event took place at the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto.

The 2016 honourees of the Birks Diamond Tribute to the Year’s Women in Film were directors Tracey Deer, Ann Marie Fleming, April Mullen, Léa Pool and Ann Shin; actors Amanda Crew, Caroline Dhavernas, Christine Horne, Sandra Oh and Jennifer Podemski; as well as scriptwriters Emma Donoghue and Marie Vien.

After the official presentation and photo-ops of the honourees, the party continued on a terrace with an open bar and beautiful sunset reflections in downtown skyscrapers.

Among the crowd who came to support and celebrate Golden Globe, Emmy and Academy-award nominated actresses, directors and scriptwriters, many Canadian celebrities were also in attendance, such as supermodel Stacey McKenzie, singer Kiesza, and TV-hosts Jonathan and Drew Scott, aka Property Brothers.
