Caulfield Cup Carnival 2016

October 20, 2016

Melbourne’s racing spring carnival is in full swing, with the Caulfield race course setting the pace for the weeks to come. Over 30,000 guests flocked to the fields last Saturday to witness 139th BMW Caulfield thoroughbred race.

The race course stepped its best foot forward this year and put on a display of pure luxury. The David Jones marquee was the place to be seen. Opulent bottles of MOET Champagne flowed to one’s heart content with Australia’s best oysters to match. As guests wandered through the tent, Siberian YASA caviar was offered on small mother-of-pearl spoons, providing visitors a taste of the ultimate in luxury and elegance.

The David Jones’ Fashion Stable created a separate get away for all that is fashion. Style ambassadors Nadia Bartel and Elyse Knowles joined Australian supermodel Jesinta Campbell front row for the runway festivities. The show opened with a solo contemporary dancer who made her way down the catwalk. A collection of vivid colors, wide-rimmed hats and lace-embroiled outfits followed.  The defilé presented a range of looks from sophisticated and elegant, to edgy and modern.

Crowns of gold and silver adorned numerous A-listers and are certainly the item of choice this year. Melbourne-based Ford Millinery wasa stand out when it came to track side designer headpieces. Meanwhile, the Jack London label set up a shoe-polishing station and was a favourite among men.

Thanks to New Zealand wine makers Catalina Sounds, ladies and gents were invited to stand on podiums and get their race day outfits illustrated. This proved to be one of the event’s most popular activities.

As the horses flew by and the day wrapped up, Caulfield delivered another fantastic day. Anticipation now builds, as the Melbourne Cup will soon follow.
