Taking that path: having the strength to start again

September 2, 2021

Starting again is a concept that is, understandably, one of the most intimidating aspects of life. It becomes something that is bigger than you. But in order to do it effectively, you’ve got to prepare. Starting again in life, whether you’ve got out of a long-term relationship, or you’ve just woken up to what life can actually mean for you, means you’ve got to have the underlying strength to ensure that you can do this. So how can you do this effectively?

Address your current environment

Many people think that in order to start all over again, they have to make a big statement and go somewhere else. Sometimes, it can help us to get a change of scenery, but you don’t necessarily have to go thousands of miles away. You can start by changing the space that you live in, but if circumstances have forced you to move on, you don’t even have to go far, as long as you feel that the space is nurturing you. You can take advantage of the best local movers and potentially go a few blocks away, which could be enough to renew your perspective. Your current environment also needs to be decluttered, and this can set you up for success.

Reflect on where you went wrong

Nobody goes out of their way to fail, but when we’ve taken the wrong path, we need to ask ourselves the right questions and understand what led to this misstep. It could be to do with our ego, or carelessness, or good old-fashioned denial, but you are the person who is responsible for your life, and you must learn how to figure out what went wrong, so you can put together a new plan and go in the right direction.

Getting the courage to make a new change

Everybody feels scared about venturing into the unknown. The most important thing we have to remember is that, no matter how scary it feels, the fact that you are taking the first step is the most intimidating thing of all. We have to remember that our brains and bodies are programmed to run away from any sign of danger, but despite this hangover from our cave people years, little doses of stress can be the thing to help us change our lives for the better.

Problem solve and plan

The crucial component to starting all over again is that understanding you will hit the wall. There will always be obstacles, and this is why you have to remember that obstacles are there to help you develop a better toolbox so you can navigate these problems easier next time. Once you’ve designed a plan to get rid of or sidestep these obstacles, you know what to do next time you encounter any obstruction.

Additionally, do not neglect your mind and body. You have to prioritize your health in these situations because it will give you the strength to start pushing against things that you wouldn’t have done before. But before you start saying “I can’t,” know that you can!
