Oscar-worthy hair in the heart of NYC

December 17, 2014

Oscar Blandi is responsible for launching many of the hairstyling trends that are adopted across United States — thanks to his hair-care and styling legacy, as well as a client list that includes fashion influencers who are consistently praised for their glamorous looks. Indeed, Reese Witherspoon, Kelly Ripa, Katie Holmes, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Emma Watson and Sofia Vergara are just a few celebrity icons to have their tresses trimmed by the Manhattan-based hair stylist.

Blandi’s talent for hair runs in the family; at the age of 14, he started working with his father in Italy. This was followed by a move to New York City in his early twenties, for what was originally supposed to be a short-term externship at a salon in Manhattan.

Over the years, the hairstylist has worked with Frederic Fekkai, Pierre Michel and other hair giants. He credits a big part of his success to two publicists who introduced him to their celebrity clients, and to make-up legend Kevyn Aucoin, who hired him for most of his editorial shoots.

Today, the owner of one of the biggest salons in the U.S. is no less humble with his clients and staff: “I’m passionate about making people feel beautiful — whether [it’s] a celebrity I’ve known for years or a new client I meet for the first time.”

The Oscar Blandi Product Collection is another passion for Blandi, who worked with chemists to understand how different ingredients affect different types of hair.

The man who cuts Jimmy Fallon’s hair once a week is a charming and dedicated artist whose sole priority is you when you are in his care. When we were at Blandi’s salon for a trim on a Tuesday morning, his clean, palatial Madison Avenue salon could have been mistaken for Sunday brunch time in the West Village.

During our chat, Blandi mentioned that for fall trends, the long bob is still the style of choice — “with bangs” as seen in Nicole Richie’s bob. Today, the polished look is softened with layers throughout, giving it a messy but clean-cut look.
