Pre-fashion week makeover: March 2015

March 23, 2015

While counting down days to another season of World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto (it officially starts today), I couldn’t resist another makeover. So about a week ago, I decided it was time for a change.

It may seem glamorous, but late nights of reporting are long and exhausting. The last thing I want to be thinking about is my hair, especially now that it’s getting longer. My ideal hair is perfectly styled, needing minimum amount of attention from me and still looking good. Not an easy task!

With that in mind, I turned to Cecile Washington who I met at one of the Matrix events last summer. Cecile is an Artistic Educator with Matrix and she only uses Matrix products at her own salon, called Washington House. We kept in touch after our meeting, and I decided to reach out to her and ask if she would be interested to do a little hair-over for me. Cecile immediately jumped on-board.

Not only did Cecile agree to do my hair but she also offered to do something she does only for select clients — she came to my house. I’ve never had a “home salon”, so this was a new experience for me. Doing everything at home was exceptionally relaxing. When Cecile was working on my hair, I didn’t notice a thing. I was so relaxed, I was ready for a nap! We chatted the whole time and, before I knew it, several hours have gone by.

We decided to do a makeover that was subtle but still very noticeable, mostly because I’m getting married this year and growing my hair long. I thought it would be fun for Cecile to describe what exactly she decided to do, so below is her story, from the hairstylist’s perspective!

P.S. I love my new hairdo. It’s so well-cut and well-styled that all I need to do is wash and blowdry it. After that, there are so many ways I could wear it. Thanks again, Cecile!

“I was super excited when Hannah contacted me about her fashion week hair makeover: I couldn’t wait to get my hands on those gorgeous locks.

11063030_10155326904955517_1310491472_n“Hannah wanted something fun and subtly funky. She loves her natural dark hair and so do I. So I kept a striking dark brown base colour on the top to really give impact around her face; it was the first thing she would notice.

“Hannah had some previously-done blonde pieces, so we decided to add more beautiful blonde peakaboos. They were sliced in diagonally to add some punch to the underside of her hair. We coloured her blonde with a stunning golden tone. We also left her previous base colour underneath, which was a medium brown. This way, when she wears her hair wavy, she will have a completely different look.

“For Hannah’s cut, we didn’t want to take too much off as she needs her length for her upcoming wedding. Instead, I added some graduated layers to take some weight off the top and that gave her hair some movement and body.

“Hannah was elated with her new look and I was honoured to be a part of this fun fashion week hair makeover!”

It’s impressive that you are getting thoughts from this piece of writing as
well as from our argument made at this place.
