Marie Antoinette couldn’t have named it better herself: Her Majesty’s Pleasure is a destination, or rather, an experience, fit for those seeking the royal treatment. Nestled on King West in Toronto, the space is part salon, part café and part relaxation haven for girls with a weakness for beautification. Step inside and you’ll likely find bridal parties sipping on cocktails while getting pedicures, and regulars treating themselves to weekly blowouts (with lattes on the side).

Owned by a husband and wife duo, Sara Kardan and Jeff Armstrong, the venue opened in 2014. The interior, designed by +tongtong, the team that is also behind the Drake Hotel, has earned the salon countless accolades, including being named the #1 Salon Design in the World 2014 by interior design magazine Azure.

The beauty bar and boutique recently partnered with Chase Hospitality Group’s Colette Grand Café to launch beauty pop-up, Colette Petit Cafe. With the menu overseen by chefs Leslie and Michael Steh, guests can nosh on the finest fresh pastries, savoury salads and artisanal sandwiches before, during or after their treatments. If you’re really feeling extravagant, you can opt for a glass of champagne or one of their many crafted cocktails.

FAJO was invited to visit the space for a Saturday morning manicure. The first thing I noticed after stepping inside was the Parisian-inspired space. Think marble countertops, designer coffee table books, white brick walls, high ceilings and chic details throughout.

After getting comfortable at the manicure bar, meeting manicurist Sarah Pham and deciding between HMP’s overwhelming selection of colourful polishes, I went for a light pink gel option. To achieve the look, Pham filed my nails to an almond shape and layered one coat of Artistic’s La Ti Da and two coats of Precious. The result was glossy and bright, perfect for summer.

But the best part that all manicure addicts will appreciate? It’s been almost two weeks and my nails are still chip-free.  From start to finish, the entire experience was so pleasant, I would gladly trade Saturday morning brunch for a visit to HMP. Or with the help of Colette Petit Café, combine the two loves for a truly decadent experience.
