4 makeup brands that are killing it this summer

July 20, 2018

With so many fun collections out this season, we had to showcase a few of the industry heavy-hitters that we think are killing it with product development. From fresh, classic, neutral shadows to yummy, scented and flashy glosses, there’s something for everyone be it the most basic glamourista or a full-blown glamazon.

MAC’s Oh, Sweetie

Leave it to MAC to come up with another collection that features outrageous lip colours! Instead of the usual overkill with liquid-matte lipsticks we’ve seen in the industry, the MAC Oh, Sweetie collection is an interesting hybrid-gloss/lip cream that we don’t see out there too often.

With the shiny, pout-enhancing benefits of a gloss but the non-sticky, intense pigmentation of a lipstick, these lippies are ultra comfortable to wear and sure to get you noticed. These lipcolours have a mousse-like texture, serving up intense shine and metallic finishes for a non-gloss product. The shades are available in 15 colours, from subtler nudes like Coconut Macaroon, to bold and unique blues like Wildberry Frosting.

The packaging, like so many MAC Collections, is on point. Did we mention that these lip colours also smell absolutely divine? The adorable names have equally yummy matching scents that make them an indulgent experience.

Too Faced’s It Just Comes Naturally

With Kardashian mania not on the decline anytime soon—it’s all about the nudes in the beauty world. Classic and feminine, It Just Comes Naturally products represent what neutral shades should be, from the packaging to the delicate lace-like imprints on the product itself.

This collection by Too Faced has a range of eye to lip products in neutral shades that will work on any skin tone. These products are great for the every-day beauty babe, who wants to enhance her natural beauty. With soft scents of coconut in the eye-shadow palettes and delectable chocolate in the cocoa-enhanced bronzers, this collection is satisfying our summer cravings.

Make Up For Ever’s Artist Colour Pencils

Make Up For Ever is such a classic artist brand, and as such they have launched a collection to ground artists to their roots and bring them back to basics: with a pencil. Whether you’re an actual visual artist, a makeup artist or just someone very creative, most people start their creative medium with pencils.

The Makeup For Ever Artist Pencils are an incredible multi-tool. Usable on the cheeks, lips, eyes and brows, these soft pencils have versatility that is wonderful for the makeup maven on the go. Although not advertised as waterproof, they have durable staying power and apply very smoothly.

For an extra punch of colour, try applying these liners as a creamy eye-shadow base all over the lid and blend it out with a fluffy brush: they blend like a dream and will help make any eye-shadow colour pop. P.S. These pencils come in a versatile range of 39 shades!

Anastasia Beverly Hills’ “Dream” Glow Kit

This brand is a veteran in the highlighter palette category, known for its unique colour palettes and incredible pigmentation. The new “Dream” Glow Kit is no exception, as Anastasia Beverly Hills created 6 new stunning shades that pack in the glitter and glitz your face needs this summer.

Don’t let the seemingly bizarre appearance of the colour selection fool you—once you dip your fingers or brush into them and get swatching, you’ll immediately notice the magical colour shifts that take place, instantly making these colours wearable. For example: Magic appears to be a light, muted green shade; however, swatch away and discover it’s actually a cluster of kaleidoscope colours with a stronger pink base than you would ever imagine.

These highlighters are intensely pigmented, high-shine and have chunkier glitter components in most of the colours. We haven’t seen colours like these out there before and think it’s a beautiful palette to add to your collection if you have fair-medium skin tones and want to get a bit more playful with whimsical colours this summer.
