Jessica Mary Clayton, one of Canada’s up-and-coming designers, presented her fall/winter 2012 collection at the Queen West Love of Mine boutique on Mar.20.
As the guests arrived, they were invited to browse the shop, as well as try the wine and hors d’oeuvres: gourmet pad thai, green apple and caramelized nuts salad, and baguette topped with Prosecco-marinated cheese. For those with a sweet tooth, rock candy and chocolate-covered marshmallows were also served.
Clayton explained that her inspiration for the collection came from the Diamond Planet and the garments were stylized to represent that. Everyone in attendance was able to experience the clothes, catching every detail as the models walked the length of the narrow boutique between two lines of standing guests.
Paired with sleek, futuristic styling, most pieces were sharp in black and white, with a predominance of diamond shapes in the detailing. The occasional prints were abstract and appeared to be highly zoomed on images of diamonds.
Clayton told FAJO that she was very happy with the event. The overall vibe was very Toronto-esque, with many girls in the crowd discussing how they would love to wear the pieces on their next Friday night out.
