ECCO opens its first flagship store in North America

June 29, 2017

On June 22, Danish footwear company ECCO opened its first flagship store in North America in Yorkdale Mall in Toronto.

This is not just a footwear shop, but a 1,150-square foot space where customers experience Danish design at its finest, with a minimalistic and airy design elements, light fixtures and focus on leather products. Danish design house Louis Poulsen is responsible for the light fixtures in the store. Also, there is a big leather Toronto skyline in the centre of the store’s back wall.

Grand opening party was attended not only by Toronto journalists and fashion bloggers, but also local actors and singers. Notably, Head of Mission, Consul General and Trade Commissioner of Denmark, Jess Møller Knudsen, was in attendance. This event and celebration of Danish design felt like a reflection of a mission, executed by His Royal Highness Crown Prince of Denmark, when he visited Toronto in 2014 to establish business ties between Canada and Denmark.

At the grand opening last week, the guests were treated to a variety of Northern European treats, such as smoked herring, pickled vegetable cubes, frikadellen (meatballs), crueller and tarts. They were also reminded of a new trendy Danish philosophy of Hygge with their candles and sweets. The event made guests feel like they travelled to Denmark for a couple of hours.

On top of that, to celebrate its opening, ECCO partnered with Self Traits, custom 3D printing company. With a qualified purchase, anyone can have their photo printed out as a 3D figurine. This promotion will be happening until June 30 in Yorkdale Mall right by the newest ECCO Prime flagship store. So, don’t miss out!
