The newest collection from Giuliana Mancinelli Bonafaccia, Tie Break, unites jewelry and handbags for the first time.
The designer originally studied architecture and interior design, but decided to use those skills to launch her own jewelry line in 2011. All of her previous lines, including Tie Break, took influential aspects from architecture, art and material textures.
Tie Break is Bonafaccia’s fall/winter 2014-15 collection. It aims to appeal to the contemporary woman with an athletic feel through lines and visible experimentation of materials. However, various geometric shapes and stones also add to its femininity.
The necklaces and earrings are made from different combinations of cord, coloured plexiglass cubes, brass pyramids and fringe. The line also includes maxi-bangles, cuffs and rings that use the same type of materials except for fringe. The metals used are rose gold, black ruthenium and brass. Some of the plexiglass colours include green, pink and pure white.
Tie Break is the “designer’s debut in the world of handbags.” Bonafaccia chose to stick to shoulder and maxi clutches, as the handbags follow suit with the same athletic feel as the jewelry. These structured and simple pieces use nubuck skin, metal cord and gold-dipped brass finishes that make them stand out. Dense and deep colours, such as black, Verona green and petroleum, are also extensively manipulated.
All pieces are “Made in Italy” to show the care and detail that are put into each number — something Bonafaccia stays true to.
