Three parties of summer 2012

August 22, 2012

As August is starting to come to an end, we are afraid to say it but we still will…summer is wrapping up!

It has been a busy season, with FAJO being invited to many fantastic events. As we look back, here are the three of our favourites!

June 2012 – The Earth Day Gala

By Katia Ostapets

The 9th annual Earth Day Canada Gala was held on June 7 at the Drake Hotel. The evening brought together a wide spectrum of individuals, from Bay Street businessmen to Queen West artists, in support of the initiatives of the Earth Day Canada – a national environmental charity.

Founded in 1990, EDC provides Canadians with the practical knowledge and tools they need to support a healthier environment. The success of EDC programs – focused on education, action, recognition and financial support, corporate engagement and research – lies in the fact that they teach Canadians about simple, easy-to-accomplish actions that any person can do.

The festivities included an introduction by Gemini award winner Shaun Majumder, keynote presentation by Juno award winner Sarah Harmer, and a late evening concert by The Sadies. Items from the silent auction were also available for bidding, including a dinner for 10 at the Drake Hotel and a Smart ebike.

Throughout the evening guests mingled to the sound of music and laughter, sharing Chef Michael Stadtländer’s culinary creations. For dessert no one could forget the chocolate-dipped Spanish Churros or the mouth watering Basil-strawberry gelato, with fresh mint leaves sprinkled on top.

Toronto can’t stop watching Myles Sexton. From his arresting runway strut to his edgy personal style, the androgynous model is captivating both girls and boys about town. It’s no surprise that the recent premiere of his new reality web series, I Walk For Myles In These Shoes, drew an enthusiastic crowd.

On Friday, July 27, fans and friends gathered at Smith to celebrate the launch of Sexton’s new YouTube series and watch a screening of the first webisode.

Teaming up with co-creator JayJay Kings and producer Lucia Sobral, the show follows Sexton’s rise to stardom as a model of both womenswear and menswear. Touching on his background as a make-up artist, jewelry designer and former small town dreamer from Nova Scotia, the project offers a behind-the-scenes look at the 21-year-old’s transformation and day-to-day life in the fashion industry.

The screening was presented to a packed house of guests who delighted in an evening of cocktails, cupcakes, raffle prizes and Sexton-inspired makeovers by Smashbox Cosmetics. Additionally, a silent auction for gift baskets was set up to benefit the 519 Community Centre.

The first episode, covering his preparations for modeling at |FAT| Arts & Fashion Week, gave viewers a sense of Sexton beyond the runway: personable, candid and gushing with appreciation. Luckily for fans, this is just the beginning. New episodes of I Walk For Myles in These Shoes will be released on the last Friday of every month on the model’s YouTube channel.
