The LuvLi Ladies’ Show, a live convention, was recently hosted at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. Organizers said that the convention was a Black women empowerment event (supportive gents were welcome too!), as well as a breast cancer awareness and up-and-coming-fashionista benefit.
Speakers included renowned Stacey McKenzie (of Canada’s Next Top Model and MTV Stylissimo, and founder of Walk This Way workshops); Pauline Christian, president of the Black Business and Professional Association; Karlyn Percil, chair of Harry Jerome Awards and founder of Bellemoun; Gwyn Chapman, community advocate and founder of the Canadian Black Caucus; and Leila Springer, president of the Olive Branch of Hope, an organization that supports women with breast cancer. The convention was hosted by Lisa Small, founder of Women’s Enterprise Canada.
A colourful 50’s inspired fashion show presented Pearl Miller’s La Chance, Mina Danielle Designs, Charlene’s Closet and House of ViCi jewelry. There were also showrooms set up that provided additional opportunities for shopping, networking, as well as fashion and art browsing!
