On Oct.16, a stylish crowd gathered at The Hoxton to celebrate Fred Perry’s 60th Anniversary. The British brand is renowned for its signature Laurel Wreath logo, preppy apparel and ongoing connection with youth culture.
To mark its longevity, the Sixty Years of Rebellion event centred on a screening of Subculture, a series of short documentaries produced by Fred Perry and directed by Grammy Award-winner Don Letts. The film follows the style and happenings of youth subcultures through the ages, including the mod generation, skinheads, preppies and punks. Along the way, it depicts the rise of street style and the connection between fashion and music scenes.
The audience sipped cocktails and nibbled on salted caramel popcorn and other hors d’oeuvres, while watching projections of the film on walls throughout the venue. Fred Perry’s key pieces, such as sweaters, polo shirts and pea coats were on display.
To celebrate the milestone, the Fred Perry brand has launched the Laurel Wreath Collection, which includes a reproduced original 1952 Fred Perry shirt and the 60 Year Wardour Leather Shoe. Select pieces of the collection are available in Canada at the Toronto Fred Perry store.
