On Friday, Oct. 13, Rethink Breast Cancer threw its annual Boobyball, themed as Get Physical this year. No doubt this was one of the best 2017 parties in Toronto.
Once the guests entered Rebel entertainment complex, they stepped into a time machine and got transferred to the ‘80s and ‘90s. Most of the attendees took dress code guidelines and Pinterest boards very seriously—they were dressed in leotards and leg warmers, plastic and neon, highlighter colours, prom dresses and power suits. Many of them channeled iconic characters of those decades: Madonna, members of TLC, Danny and Sandy from Grease, as well as characters from The Breakfast Club, Wayne’s World, Clueless and The Royal Tenenbaums.
The décor and entrainment were on point and very detail-oriented—table tops were printed with collages of our favourite magazines from the ‘90s—from the Rolling Stone to YM and J-14. Poles were decorated with Rubik Cubes. There were retro photo booths, Polaroid cameras and vintage TV set expositions. There were also make-up, hair and manicure stations for beauty touch-ups.
TOPSHOP transformed the stage into a pink locker room from the favourite TV shows of the ‘90s. That was the Get Physical Lounge, where guests were able to sweat for a good cause: for every 50m cycled on their ‘80s retro bike, TOPSHOP would donate an additional $1 to Rethink. Considering the line-up to the bike, they must have hit their goal.
Music was provided by DJ Brains4brkfst and we danced our hearts out till the end of the night. From Whitney to Britney, all the boy bands, the best of the ‘90’s R’n’B and some favourite Latin songs—you name it, they played it.
If you missed this year’s Boobyball, make sure to attend next year. You can bet that we will be there too!
