Toronto’s theatre scene just got a whole lot greener with the arrival of Shrek The Musical, and let’s be honest — who doesn’t love a good ogre story? Based on the 2001 animated film that turned a grumpy green giant into an unlikely hero, this musical adaptation brings all the beloved characters back to life, from the wisecracking Donkey to the feisty Princess Fiona. But this isn’t just a rehash of the movie — it’s an all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza with some added colour and musical twists.
Brought to you by Mirvish until August 16, Shrek The Musical combines the film’s signature humour with toe-tapping tunes and vibrant choreography. The Princess of Wales theatre is the perfect setting for a show as big and bold as Shrek.
We caught up with Ally Choe, who plays Young Fiona and the Ugly Duckling, and Katherine Paladichuk, who takes on Teen Fiona and Peter Pan, to chat about what makes this show so special. Katherine, said she’s living the dream and added, “It is incredible to be blessed to work a job that pays you to travel around the world.” Ally, with a heart full of determination, noted, “Never give up on your dreams and keep going and trying and auditioning no matter how hard it seems.”
With a mix of hilarious dialogue, memorable songs and a message about self-acceptance, Shrek The Musical is the perfect show for anyone who’s ever felt like they don’t quite fit in.
So, whether you’re a die-hard Shrek fan or just looking for a fun night out, Shrek The Musical is a must-see. With its combination of heart, humour and an all-star cast, it’s the perfect escape into a fairytale world where everyone’s welcome — whether you’re a noble steed, a misunderstood ogre or just someone looking for a little happily ever after. Don’t miss out on this ogre-sized adventure — grab your tickets before they’re gone!
