Last week, designer Trish Peng presented her 2024 bridal collection, called “Colpo Di Fulmine,” at Melange de Blanc in New York City. The collection was inspired by the dresses from the designer’s own wedding day. Peng also took inspiration from her wedding venue with the same name, which can be translated from Italian as love at first sight.
Peng’s brand was created in 2014 and focuses on luxury wedding dresses. Based in New Zealand, the company has since branched out internationally to seven different countries, including Canada and the United States.
According to Peng, she has wanted to be a wedding dress designer since the age of seven. She learned how to sew at an early age and attended Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design. Peng caters towards people looking for a one-of-a-kind gown. For example, brides are able to choose fabrics in her store to make their own dress. Her pieces highlight Peng’s dedication to individuality and personalization.
The latest collection is “timeless, classic and elegant,” said Peng.
It features a combination of traditional, contemporary and romantic touches. The designs are described as “feminine and effortlessly elegant” and consist of four veils and 12 dresses.
Creamy whites and lacey veils bring in the traditional wedding values. Satin, off-the-shoulder dresses complement the thin-strapped, scooped necked wedding pieces, while feather-trimmed necklines add a modern touch.
Influence from Peng’s own four wedding dresses can also be seen in the line, which the brand describes as “a modern romance, combining classic silhouettes with artistic touches”. One standout item is Peng’s ceremony dress that showcased individually, hand-placed 3D flowers and was recreated in the Zara Gown.
