It’s New York Fashion Week and major brands from the States and the world are flocking to the Big Apple to showcase their newest looks.
This year designers, organizers and modelling agencies are shaking things up by hiring more diverse models, showing same-season collections and embracing social media takeovers.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America put a particular emphasis on the diversity of models by creating diversity guidelines. And some modelling agencies are leading the way, like FTL Moda who cast acid attack survivor Reshma Qureshi.
Originally thought to threaten the exclusivity of fashion week, social media is now being embraced by some designers who are ditching the runway in favour of virtual shows, like Misha Nonoo who opted for a Snapchat-only presentation.
Showing same-season collections was a trend we saw from major designers last season and it continues to gain popularity, as does making collections available for purchase in-store or online immediately, as opposed to the typical six-month delay.
Despite the changes, one thing remains the same – fashion week is all about fashion. And bringing you carefully selected coverage of NYFW every season, the FAJO team has once again curated the boldest, latest and most creative runway looks from New York City.
