Located in the heart of Toronto’s Rosedale neighbourhood, lies a culinary gem that transcends the ordinary dining experience. Taline, a restaurant that exudes sleek decor and flavour, is not just a place to indulge in exquisite dishes; it’s a tribute to family, tradition and the enduring spirit of unconditional love. Owned by a family of three brothers (Seb, Saro and Serouj), Taline is a homage to their beloved mother, with the restaurant named in her loving memory.
The moment you step into Taline, you are enveloped in an atmosphere brimming with care and attention to detail. Each dish that graces the table tells a story of labour-intensive preparation and unwavering dedication. It’s evident that every plate is crafted with love, reflecting the culinary legacy passed down through generations. It is important to note, that the majority of the food is inspired by the dishes that their mother used to make for them when they were children – another reason why it is so packed with warmth and love.
Among the myriad of delights that await diners at Taline, two standouts are the Mante and Vochkar dishes. The Mante, reminiscent of Armenian ravioli, is a delicate masterpiece, bursting with flavour and served with a generosity that speaks volumes about the restaurant’s commitment to culinary excellence. The Vochkar lamb chops are grilled to perfection, a testament to the gastronomic expertise that defines Taline. If I were completely honest with myself, I would order the entire menu in a heartbeat and pack leftovers to bring home.
Whether it’s a romantic date night or a family gathering, Taline is the perfect destination for any occasion. Despite its upscale ambiance, the restaurant remains unpretentious, welcoming guests with open arms and ensuring that every visit feels like coming home. The owners, actively involved in the day-to-day operations, epitomize hospitality, often personally checking in with diners to ensure their satisfaction.
During my recent visit to Taline, I had the pleasure of being served by one of the owners, Saro. His passion for preserving his mother’s memory and delighting guests with exceptional cuisine was palpable in every interaction. At Taline, it’s not just about serving food; it’s about creating an experience that leaves a lasting impression.
Beyond its culinary offerings, Taline boasts an impressive mixology program and an outstanding wine list. From Armenian to Lebanese, Greek to New Zealand varietals, the selection is something that should not be missed, if you want to try something different than the Italian and French staples. Additionally, Taline’s beautiful upstairs section offers a secluded haven for private events, adding another layer of allure to this already captivating establishment.
From its rich history to its exquisite cuisine and impeccable service, every aspect of Taline speaks to the dedication of its owners and their desire to create an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you’re craving a taste of Armenia or simply seeking a place where you can feel at home, Taline awaits, ready to enchant and delight in equal measure.
