Looks from the runway, general consumer fashion and a booming make-up culture create a diverse range of trends this fall that can be summed up in one simple phrase: “Do you, girl.”
There no longer are just a few measurable ways to have your make-up game on point, as this editorial photoshoot will illustrate — it’s all about self-expression. From soft, “barely-there” make-up to messy grunge, we’ll walk you through a few of the very diverse looks that will be rocking this fall.
Grunge Glam
For those dramatic eyes, simply haphazardly buff into the lids and lower lashline a black gel liner and blend inro the crease using a dark, grey eye shadow. Finish the eyes with some mascara on your lashes and eye gloss on the lids and lower lash line for that wet and badass, worn-in effect. Apply eyeliner to the top lash-line and waterline (optional).
Pair these sexy, smokey eyes with either a more wearable, nude lip or a traditional 90s grungey brown lip if you’re not afraid to add a bit more drama.
For a true grungey look, flat and textured waves give the perfect “I didn’t try today, but actually did do a bit of styling time” appearance. Alternatively, roll out of bed and rock a bit of natural (but slightly fixed up) bedhead.
Glitter Glam
For that mesmerizing stare, buff a dark brown or burgundy shade into the crease and pat a gorgeous glitter across your lids. Elongate your eyes and give yourself an instant face lift with winged liner and a pair or two of fluffy false lashes.
For flawless skin, use a medium-full coverage foundation and bring in hints of fall with a beautiful berry, plum or deep scarlet tone depending on your skin colour.
Complete the look with a vampy, perfect pout by lining the lips with a deep red or purple berry tone and filling in the lip with a matching matte lipstick. Lipgloss is optional.
Complete the look with elegant and sophisticated soft waves in your locks.
Glowy Skin with Peach Hues
For the eyes, sweep a soft peach colour across your lid and lightly layer on a warm brown shade into the crease with a blending brush. Coat the lashes with mascara, and apply soft and fluffy, piecey lashes for that Kardashian lash.
For the skin, make your foundation extra dewy by mixing in a couple of drops of essential oils–but make sure to apply a luminizing moisturizer first. Buff a cream blush into the apples of your cheeks and bathe those cheekbones in a highlighter that can be seen from space!
Finish the look off by lightly patting onto your lips a soft, peach lipstick or stain. Pair with a slicked back ponytail or bun for complementary sophistication.
60s Pop Art
For a bit of wearable pop art on those lids, pack a bright orange across the lids. Cut that crease with a black shadow and blend a warm brown into it. Wing that liner as far as your little heart desires (until it touches your ears, if you want!) and pop on a pair of dramatic falsies. Complete the eyes with a pop of colour using a Kohl eyeliner in your waterline.
Keep the skin super natural with an ultra lightweight and sheer foundation. Don’t be shy with the blush, but keep the highlight a bit more minimal so it is not fighting with the eyes. Finish the skin with a cute faux beauty mark using liquid eyeliner.
Complete the make-up with a matte, bubblegum pink lipstick or a deeper, mauvey toned hue for a slightly more wearable, modern fall look.
Finish the look with structured waves and lots of volume at the roots for that true, Brigitte Bardot bombshell va-va voom.
