Boobyball: Wild West is almost here!

Rethink Breast Cancer is throwing its annual bash Boobyball tomorrow! Ahead of the big party, we got in touch with Alex Hourigan, Event Manager at Rethink, and discussed the upcoming event, this year’s Wild West theme and why you don’t want to miss it.

How is this Boobyball going to be different from previous ones?

For the first time ever, we have a live performance, which is multi-platinum international recording artist, Mia Martina. We are very excited about this year’s Wild West theme and have gotten an amazing response from everyone (so much so that we’ve sold out regular tickets).

Can you expand on the theme. Why did you pick it?

Wild West is a popular fashion trend at the moment, but our reason for choosing this theme was bigger. Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis can often feel like the Wild West! Not only is it life-altering and scary news, but the breast health landscape is a big one. There’s so much information out there that newly-diagnosed young women can feel lost in the sand storm of what to do, where to go and how to get help. This Boobyball, Rethink wants to wrangle in awareness and support for the work we do for young people affected by breast cancer – through advocacy, education, programs, resources and more.

How long does it take to plan and produce the Boobyball?

We start to work on the next Boobyball before the current year is even done, booking locations and speaking with sponsors. Then dive into deciding the theme and décor elements once we wrap up the Boobyball season and throughout the year.

What are you goals for Boobyball this year? In what other ways can people donate to Rethink Breast Cancer this year?

Our goal is to raise more than we ever have to help support Rethink’s work. We have an auction throughout the month of October [with] BCAM (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) items. We also have other initiatives throughout the year that you can support, [and you can find more information at] boobyball.com
