Top 10 luxury Red Carpet looks

September 4, 2013

By Holly Cheung

As the temperature gets cooler heading into fall, and storefronts are increasingly draped with sharp burgundy pea coats or temptingly soft leather booties, say goodbye to summer with a look at the most recent fashion trends on the Red Carpet.

From sexy black-tie jumpsuits to alluring peek-a-boo lace, beaded bodices and plunging backlines, starlets’ Red Carpet game has been one swishy, sequined siren song after another.

FAJO picked 10 of our favourite, luxurious looks from the most recent celebrity-studded events. We also invited Toronto and Vancouver-based Amy Lu, who has styled editorials for Vanity Fair and many other North American publications; and Toronto-based Lisa McLatchie, who has been mentored by What Not To Wear star Stacy London, to share their thoughts on why each of these style choices is a showstopper.

#1 – Kate Hudson

Amy: Love black and gold together! Kate has a killer body and this dress shows it off perfectly. The belt gives her a defined waist and the incredible beaded neckline means no accessories are needed.

#2 – Lily Collins

Amy: The strategic cutouts and lace arms show just enough skin to keep it sexy, and the sequin stripes hug her curves while elongating her figure. The classic drop earrings perfectly polish this exquisite dress. The slicked-back low-bun and dark nails add even more drama.

#3 – Isla Fisher

Amy:  Isla’s edgy choice of accessories – a statement necklace and piled on bangles – combined with her undone hair, make this look modern and chic!

Lisa:  I love this dress on Isla and it goes to prove that yes, redheads can wear red and look awesome!

#4 – Amy Adams

Amy: Her barely-there make-up and swept back hair complement this larger-than-life dress. Such a dreamy dress!

#5 – Marion Cotillard

Amy: Marion Cotillard is the definition of elegance on the Red Carpet. Her fashion choices, including hair, make-up and accessories, are never complicated; yet she always seems to look perfect! The low-back and sheath cut make this little white Dior a knock-out.

#6 – Nina Dobrev

Lisa: I really loved this hot pink number Nina chose. The lace cutouts were on-trend; paired with the shape-revealing style of this dress, made it super sexy without being overly revealing.

#7 – Katrina Bowden

Amy: There is a lot going on in this dress: patterned sequins, studded detail on the belt, sheer insets and pleated tulle, but because the dress and accessories are all monochromatic it looks stunning and subdued. I love blondes in this icy-silver colour too, it’s so elegant.

Lisa: Yet another vintage-inspired dress, Katrina is on-trend for 2013 in this gown. I love the sheer details and mermaid style with the tulle hemline – so pretty and feminine!

 #8 – Anne Hathaway

Amy: This slinky beaded gown hugs her figure without too much va-va-voom, while the open neckline and soft hue take a backseat to her pixie do and painted red pout. Her face draws all the attention in this look.

Lisa: I am a sucker for anything that sparkles, so I am a big fan of this vintage-inspired dress Anne chose! I like that she kept her accessories to a minimum as well.

#9 – Vanessa Hudgens

Amy: Jumpsuits exude youth and playfulness, and are a great way to add edge to an otherwise classic look. The pop of colour on her lips works well with this nude look and her strappy heels and deep V-neckline perfectly complement the otherwise covered-up look.

Lisa: I think this has to be my fave look of them all! I love the sparkly beading, sheer sleeves and sexy plunging neckline of this vintage-inspired jumpsuit.

#10 – Miley Cyrus

Lisa: The black-and-white colour combo is a big 2013 trend, and I love the feminine back bow detail. It adds that extra touch of feminity to the look and is a great juxtaposition to her new hair.
