Galia Lahav is the name synonymous with glamorous bridal couture. During the second weekend of September, Melbourne brides had the pleasure of trying on the internationally renowned Israeli designer’s intricate creations as part of a trunk show hosted by the Eternal Bridal boutique.

Arriving for their appointment at the Langham Hotel in Southbank, brides, together with their friends and family, were invited to enter a luxurious suite full of fairy tale gowns. Invigorated with a glass of complImentary sparkling, they perused the overwhelming selection to choose their dream dress.

“Many try on the Lilly Rose. It’s quite a statement piece,” said Sebastian Lee, CEO of the boutique. The gown is made of pink lace, with a dramatic full skirt in the back and almost completely sheer front. However, Lee explains that it proves “too different” for most Australian brides. Many, instead, fall in love with the Loretta gown—a fitted silhouette to the thigh with full tulle bottom and a sexy low back.

Co-founder and Managing Director of Eternal Bridal, Lyndell Ye, explained that the styles preferred by brides vary greatly depending on the city. Melburnians opt for classic styles with a bit of quirk, such as original fabric, detailing or colours. Blush tones are currently a favourite. In Sydney, brides search for avant-garde show stoppers and for those getting married in the Gold Coast price is not an issue. Everyone, however, is concerned with comfort. Ye explains that it’s the reason they choose Lahav’s designs, known for their amazing fit. Nearly all gowns have no ribbing and fit like a glove.

For brides looking for the “princess” look, the international favourite is the Georgia gown: embossed and printed, with a classic silhouette. In this ball gown, Lahav is bringing back simplicity, while focusing on details.

“The magic is not in the silhouette, but in the fabrics”, said Ye. The dress is a perfect representation of Lahav’s latest collection, Victorian Affinity, which features shimmering, sparkling masterpieces with lots of detailing and 3D flower appliques. For a more price-conscious bride, a similar look can be found in the designer’s ready-to-wear line called GALA, which was also available at the trunk show.

Every bride’s dream is to feel like a princess on her wedding day. For Melbourne brides, Lahav’s creations have made the dream a reality.
