InterContinental London Park Lane: a familiar face overseas

July 19, 2019

Welcome to Mayfair, London: arguably, the poshest neighbourhood, housing the most visited landmarks, such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square. Nestled right at the southeast corner between Hyde Parke and the Buckingham Palace Gardens sits the InterContinental London Park Lane, the trusted and reputable luxury hotel that we would call home for the next two nights. First time visitors to London could not stay in a more ideal location.

As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by two smiling and incredibly friendly doormen who immediately took our bags and ushered us to the front desk. As we waited in line, they chatted with us about our trip thus far and gave us some hot tips on where to go for drinks later: Bagatelle was the recommendation for a fancy dress-up night with some bubbly, and it was just exquisite. When it was our turn to check in, we were greeted by hotel management and were taken on a quick tour of the property.

The first stop was Ella Canta, a restaurant on the ground floor featuring experimental Mexican cuisine by chef Martha Ortiz. The dishes we spotted were as bold, bright and vivacious as could be. We then quickly stopped by the other fine dining establishment on premise, Theo Randall, an award-winning Italian restaurant that is said to be the best Italian in town.

We also stopped by Club InterContinental, located on the seventh floor. For an extra fee, a membership during your stay to Club InterContinental brings a variety of benefits, including all-day refreshments, complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea (yes, please), evening drinks and canapés, and other exclusive amenities.

At last, we were brought to our Executive room that offered sweeping views of Hyde Park. By London standards, the room was considerably large for the going rate. The décor was quite traditional and suitable to most tastes, with a comfortable seating area nestled inside a bay window for lounging. The beds were outrageously comfortable.

Later that evening, we checked out The Arch Bar for a quick cocktail. I, of course, had to try a gin cocktail. The menu was cheeky with an explanation behind the names of each drink, which I quite enjoyed. I ordered the Commodore, made with Bombay Sapphire, house made ginger ale and English pear – yum. We then headed to dinner at Theo Randall. My goodness, was this a treat! With locally sourced ingredients contributing to a daily-changing menu, each visit here is an adventure for your taste buds. I was treated to the most outrageous Risotto Di Peperoni Rossi, otherwise known as a Roasted Sicilian Red Pepper Risotto, complete with fresh basil, butter and parmesan. I finished dinner with a treat from the Dolci menu, enjoying a delicious Amalfi lemon tart.

All in all, the InterContinental London Park Lane offers a variety of room types, amenities and services that make this a safe bet for an enjoyable stay for just about every traveller type. Between fantastic service, incredible dining spots, a lovely spa and fitness centre and, of course, an unbeatable location, you’re sure to be a happy traveller if you get to call this property “home” during your stay.
