Mahalo, Hyatt—an authentic Hawaiian experience

June 9, 2017

Aloha in the Hawaiian language means affection, peace, compassion and mercy. And just like this description, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa offered a truly warm and authentic Aloha experience.

Balanced between the idyllic beauty of the legendary Waikiki Beach and the dynamic city centre of Honolulu, this hotel is a vibrant destination that combines relaxation and adventure with true Hawaiian hospitality.

A warm welcome to Waikiki

Two towers stand tall above Waikiki, hosting 1,230 guestrooms and 19 suites. Each offers Hawaiian elegance and a private lanai with panoramic beach, mountain and city views.

My husband and I love to explore new cities on foot. We are also very active and love sporty options, so we found the location incredibly convenient. The hotel is on the waterfront, with surfing lessons available from locals to help master the low and slow wave breaks of Waikiki.

Hyatt’s location is a walking distance from the Diamond Head crater, a great attraction for those who love to hike. Surrounded by world-class shopping and sophisticated dining, this hotel truly offers something for everyone.

At home with Hyatt

Upon entering the lobby, we immediately noticed the beautiful plants and colorful live macaw birds. We were then greeted with beautiful handmade orchid leis and a bottle of champagne, leaving no doubt that we had arrived at a tropical destination.

We stayed in a beautiful suite with a breathtaking ocean view from our balcony. It was especially fun to see the surfers and paddleboarders hit the waves right outside our room.

The room décor had a distinctly Hawaiian vibe, with patterns of palms and wooden textures in a minimal, clean atmosphere. All the bathroom products were based on natural and tropical fruits with amazing scents. Something we found very interesting were the high-end Japanese toilets. You need to experience this, but feel free to Google “Japanese Toto toilet”. If you haven’t heard of them, these toilets maintain their own cleanliness, and include many advanced spa-like features. I will leave the details to your imagination!

Immersing in local culture

The resort offers a variety of complimentary amenities and activities to guests that we enjoyed, such as hula and lei-making lessons and celebrations to honour Hawaii’s Polynesian history, with music, dancers and fire shows.

There is also an onsite farmers market every Tuesday and Thursday.

A spa getaway

One of the highlights of our stay was our spa treatment at the luxurious 10,000 square foot Na Ho’ola Spa. When we walked into the spa, the amazing beach view and garden atmosphere immediately transitioned us into a full relaxation state. My husband and I both received massages and the Mai Tai Body Scrub, which has been specifically formulated with scents of sparkling orange, dark rum and pineapple intended to evoke memories of the popular Hawaiian cocktail. The scrub is followed by a Mai Tai whipped body butter infused with Hawaiian Kukui and Macadamia nut oils.

After all this pampering, it was time to hit the hotel’s swimming pool & hot tub that overlook the Waikiki Beach and the Duke Kahanamoku Statue—a great spot to watch the sunset.

Until next time!

The saying Mahalo— a Hawaiian word meaning thanks, gratitude, admiration, praise, esteem or respect—became a natural habit during our visit as we really felt spoiled every moment of our stay!

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa offers unique experiences for travelers to enhance their vacation in the Aloha state. Without a doubt, we’ll be back again!
