Hotel Grand Powers: Paris, je t’aime

December 5, 2019

Paris—like New York, Tokyo and a handful of other global cities—is filled to the brim with things to do, see and experience. Because of that, the City of Lights appeals to three types of travellers that make up the 15+ million annual visitors: the extreme planner, the zero-plan planner and the planner who sits somewhere in between. While some travellers prefer to stay anywhere knowing they will be out for as long as possible and, therefore, not spending much time at their hotel, the upside to those who choose wisely is a hotel room that offers Parisian views both outside, and inside.

Hotel Grand Powers.

Nestled in the heart of the 8th arrondissement, Hotel Grand Powers is one of the few remaining five-star boutique hotels to be privately owned by a French family. Bought in 2005 from their father, two sisters turned the four-star property into the five-star establishment that it is today. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the property remains loyal to hotel’s heritage, while adding subtle modernity in style, function and technology.

Gold-gilded mirrors, for instance—a focal point of each room—contain a built-in TV and stereo system. The music system, which carries through into the spacious bathrooms, is a beautiful touch to a luxurious soak in the tub or getting ready for a night on the town experience. Products by Parisian brand Diptyque take the experience to the next level.

Each of the 50 rooms is colour-themed, and even at the lowest price-point is spacious, cozy and charming beyond words. Their specially designed furniture is a tribute to the design of the last 100 years. The materials (lacquered paint, aged brass, marble, oak and walnut) and fabrics (velvet and silk) reinforce the impression of luxury and comfort.

The hotel restaurant, Café 52, is a destination not only for hotel guests, but Parisians looking for a healthy and gourmet bite to eat. This venue, like each of the rooms, is cohesively decorated to the nines. For those who’ve left a few reservations unmade, the Clefs d’Or Concierge is ready to make special suggestions, and help with any and all plans.

At Hotel Grand Powers, there is no guilt about resting, when you can see the Eiffel Tower or stunning classic Parisian architecture from your pillow. No sense of needing to be out, when a little balcony welcomes you out in the comfort of your robe and fresh café (or rosé). No sense of not enjoying every moment that Paris has to offer, when you look around your room and outside your window, and feel completely, wholly, excitedly Parisian.
