The honeymooner’s guide to the Seychelles

February 17, 2019

Consistently ranked as one of the most beautiful places in the world, it’s no wonder that the Seychelles is one of the top honeymoon destinations. Being quite remote, the islands’ exclusivity is an enticing asset. In fact, 115 islands make up the picture-perfect archipelago, and while most are uninhabited, selecting which to visit is no small feat. La Digue, home of the towering granite boulders that flank a protected reef, is the poster child for the Seychelles and is an obvious must. But to not explore further would be to miss out on incredible experiences unique to these beautiful islands.

If you are planning on the Seychelles for your honeymoon, the last thing you need is the stress of planning a complex multi-island trip on top of everything else you have going on ahead of your Big Day. Surprisingly, the perfect luxury trip need not be a headache to plan in the Seychelles. Mason’s Travel is the leading destination management company in Seychelles, and can not only secure travel excursions, accommodations, weddings and transfers, but is also the sister company of the two most outstanding properties in the islands: Carana Beach Hotel and Denis Private Island.

The island of Mahé is the Seychelles’ largest island and home to the majority of residents. The Seychelles’ largest port is located on Mahé, in the city of Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles and the heart of the Seychellois culture and life. While in a taxi en route to Carana Beach Hotel, our driver pointed out that while today Carana Beach is loved by honeymooners for its five-star property and amenities, romance has long been at its core: back in the day it used to be where young couples would go for their first kiss against the backdrop of one of the most romantic and secluded beaches on the island.

Indeed, there is a reason the beautiful beach is visible from each of Carana Beach Hotel’s 40 chalets. Each is adorned with a balcony with its own daybed, where you’ll want to start every morning with a coffee, a good book and the sound of crashing waves.

The stunning beach of the Carana Beach Hotel.

You’ll soon be tempted to get even closer to the beach; during the day, couples can enjoy the perfectly-sized daybeds-for-two right in front of the private beach, and have access to the full-service restaurant and bar.

Every night offers a different theme in the main restaurant, and the spa menu will be the only thing you may leave the beach for. But if you don’t have a chance to make use of either, you get a second chance to take advantage of it all at your next stop: Denis Private Island. Since both properties are managed by Mason’s Travel, there are consistencies between them: the spa menu is identical, and the theme nights are designed so that you can experience the broadest range of their cuisine and cultural offerings. Worthy of note are the BBQ Night, Sushi Night and, perhaps most of all, Creole Night held on Fridays, complete with traditional Creole dancing, dress and, of course, the food.

Denis Private Island is every honeymooner’s dream: your very own private island. Each chalet is adorned by beautiful wild bougainvillea, and is quite distant from the neighbouring ones. You truly feel as though the island – and the piece of stunning white sand beach in front of it – is all yours. Service is exceptional and no detail is omitted, from the outdoor showers to the unlimited refills of fresh water, from the elegant four poster beds to the smiling faces of the fantastic staff.

Guided and self-guided bike tours are offered for those wishing to explore the perimeter of the island or cut through its lush forest centre. We highly recommend the guided bike tour with the local ecologist who can teach you about the rich history of the island and highlight what makes it fully self-sustaining as well as flora that are found nowhere else in the world. Honeymooners should also take advantage of a sunset cruise around the island that includes complimentary champagne, as well as a private candlelit dinner on the beach (upon request and depending on availability).

If there is even an ounce of stress left after the amazing few days already spent in the Seychelles – or, if the desire to be further pampered beckons – couples or individual massages are available outside your private chalet, to the sounds of the beach and birds – no spa CD required.

Get lost in the wonders of the outdoors

If you are based in the United States, you can always find amazing alternatives and bring the Seychelles to you. Why not take out a boat and go fishing, or learn about the area’s coastal region? Perhaps, you could explore nature further by whale or dolphin watching. This is a magical treat for anyone and will be an experience you will never forget. You may want to consider dolphin tours which can be wonderful, especially at sunset. Being out in nature will be incredible for your health. It’s a great way to relax the mind and is also a brilliant exercise. There are plenty of exciting things to do that will leave you feeling invigorated and happy!
