Preceding Toronto Fashion Week, several runway presentations by very talented Canadian designers were showcased in Toronto as part of The Collections.
Backstage at this two-day event was bustling with creativity, as make-up artists, hair stylists and models prepared for the shows, while designers frantically raced around, excitedly chatting about their upcoming runway presentations.
With an urban-western city girl style, Laura Siegel presented neutral tones with accented colours, prints and accessories.
Each model stood on a wooded box with cacti on both sides, setting the Western vibe of the show.
Chloé Comme Parris
On the runway, Chloé Comme Parris showcased a soft palette, full of sheer pieces and prints, adding embellished details of buttons and chains to keep their edgy style.
The sister duo – Chloé and Parris Gordon – continue to build and expand their brand, and this collection was very positively received in the fashion industry.
A collection of black-and-white with bold green and orange pieces was Label’s focus for spring/summer 2013. This edgy line included cutouts, twists and ties.
Other trends spotted were ¾ sleeves, bold prints and high slits on skirts.
There was something for the gents too. From formal chic to a relaxed casual look, Klaxon Howl’s runway presentation ranged from work to weekend wear.
Denim, khaki, plaid, graphic Tee’s and camouflage prints were combined to create a wide range of looks for the fashion-forward man.
This year’s winner of the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s New Labels Award, Sid Neigum was participating in The Collections as well. Dark smoky cat eyes with nylon headpieces complemented the shades of green and grey in his latest line.
Neigum is well-known for his minimalistic pieces that focus on detailed tailoring and polished design.
Shortly after Neigum’s collection, jersey and knit fabrics created movement as they were sent down the runway. Cara Cheung continued with her signature style in this collection, adding jewels, fringe and bold colour to create fun and flirty dresses.
Showing midriff and adding cutouts, this spring/summer 2013 line is playful and sexy.
