If you have ever attended the launch party of the Interior Design Show, you would know that it can’t compare to any other party in Toronto.

IDS11 has a touch of fashion too.

First of all, it has 5,000 attendees and 300 exhibitors. IDS is, in fact, Canada’s largest contemporary design fair.

Secondly, it is filled with a wide variety of colourful, unusual and striking design objects. The objects that, upon seeing, you will walk around several times, and marvel about for weeks.

And, lastly, IDS attracts some of the best-dressed people in the city. It can, arguably, only compete with the Toronto Fashion Week in terms of its attendees’ sense of style.

Needless to say, design personalities enjoy attending the show every year, and so they came together at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this past Thursday, for the show’s 13th annual launch party.

Guests were sipping bubbly and feasting on gourmet food, while listening to the beats of the internationally renowned DJ Jojoflores. Groups of dancers also provided live entertainment with their performances throughout the venue.

The MTCC was transformed into an international design museum, including a 2,600 sq-ft Audi Lounge designed by 3rd UNCLE design inc. Located at the centre of the show, the lounge was showcasing the new Audi A7, which is due to arrive in Canada later this year. The lounge was open and accessible from all sides, defined only by an organic-shaped white luminescent floor, and filled with guests who were pointing to the car and posing for photos next to it.

Launch party attendees previewed trends, ideas and new products, while rubbing elbows with Allegra Hicks, Darryl Carter, Douglas Coupland, Jason Bruges, Jean-Marie Massaud, Michael Young and Thom Mayne.

The event is a showcase of some very creative pieces.

Casey House First Seating, presented by Plan B, VITRA and Swarovski Elements, invited design lovers to place their bets on 20 retooled iconic Vitra Panton Chairs by Canada’s leading architects, designers and stylists including Bruce Mau Design, Cecconi Simone, the fashion design duo Greta Constantine, world renowned Karim Rashid, Katherine Newman and II by IV – all in support of the Casey House.

Guests also got a preview of this year’s space feature. SIBLING REVELRY challenged four of Canada’s most creative sibling duos to partner in transforming 600 sq. ft. of space into their own unique design statement. Theo & Sarah Richardson, David & Glenn Dixon, Thien & My Ta Trung of Periphere, and Jason & Lars Dressler of Brothers Dressler put their collective design DNA on display, and their relationships on the line, in this unique feature.

The launch party, once again, was a true celebration of colour, shape, creativity and imagination.
