Tzedakah does not mean giving money; it means doing the right thing and all of you are doing the right thing tonight,” said Laurence Paperman  to a room full of guests, eagerly awaiting the I heart Fashion fundraiser. Along with Eric Gralnick, Laurence founded the En Famille charity at the Jewish General Hospital, which offers services and support to families who have parents afflicted with cancer.

This fine cause, along with the Save a Child’s Heart charity, was supported last Sunday night by the second annual I Heart Fashion fundraiser and fashion show. The event was organized by co-chairs Michelle Dabora and Mattan Rozenek, as well as Amanda Noodelman from the Bronfman Israel Experience Centre, and supported by the entire Montreal Jewish community.

“Fashion represents creativity, individuality and a sense of freedom of choice. This year’s charities exemplify these values through their missions to assist children and their families who would not otherwise have access to quality services rendered,” was the official message from the co-chairs.

The Studio10King gallery was buzzing with anticipation as everyone sipped on the gallery’s Signature Drinks, which distinctly smelled of lychee and the tartness of cranberry.

It was the kind of event where one runs into everyone they know, proving once again that in Montréal  everyone is connected through a mere one degree of separation.

As the emcee introduced the first scene and DJ Inferno began to play his modern and upbeat mix of Major Lazer and Swedish House Mafia beats, the room ignited with energy.

The models wore summery and exceptionally wearable clothes from a variety of Montréal brands and boutiques, including Fresh Brand, Blank, Voyou, Affliction, Jeans Homogene, Boutique FLY, Style Exchange and Valerie Dumaine. Most prevalent items were jeans and graphic tees on the guys, and ruffled tops and figure-flattering dresses on the girls.

Scene 5 showcased Bab’s Jewels, which were complemented by the high ponytails the female models wore. The looks in all other scenes were accompanied by pieces from SKMtl, jewelry designed to quench the style thrust of any fashionista, no matter her age, style or (fingers crossed) budget.

The show ended with an unexpected burst of confetti from the models, wearing the I Heart Fashion tank tops. After the raffle prizes were distributed and all the cocktails finished, everyone headed home with a goody bag on their arm.
