To close the Advertising Week in Toronto, the second annual Ad Ball was held on Jan.26, 2012, at the elegant Maison Mercer Nightclub and Event Space.

The theme, Shaken and Stirred, was inspired by the Sean Connery 1964 film Goldfinger, and had a classic Bond feel. Guests were encouraged to wear their most stylish mod wear and every aspect of the evening was considered in order to enhance the experience.

The invitation was phrased in secret agent lingo, urging the attendees to “accept this mission.” At the location, a private side room held an intimate poker game to mimic the James Bond film Casino Royal.

The theme deviated slightly when it came to drinks. Aside from the open bar in the middle of the space, an assortment of martinis was provided, compliments of Three Olives Vodka, and imported from England. Its bubble gum flavour and maraschino cherry garnish were very popular with the ladies.

Thoughtfully keeping in mind that many came straight from work, food choices were abundant at the gala: think sushi, stuffed cherry tomatoes, mini tartelettes and scrumptious Moroccan food.

The evening’s entertainment kicked off with a fiery tango number to the song Roxanne. Next, the lovely MC from City TV introduced the fashion show, where industry insiders sported the newest in spy gear – dashing blazers and suits with a few whimsical accessories.

The rest of the evening was spent mingling, dancing and taking advantage of the open bar.

Everyone looked fabulous. Many women wore floor-length gowns, often adorned with sequins. One guest, for example, borrowed a 1949 original frock just for the occasion. The rest opted for more modern cocktail dresses, although no less glamorous. Men went for the classic Bond look – a great fitting tuxedo in black or white, and a fake smoking gun.

It was a classy evening with an adventurous twist, filled with networking, dancing, laughter and, of course, intrigue!
