Maybelline: get the fall/winter look!

June 12, 2012

Report by Aleyah Solomon

On May 31, Maybelline New York launched their fall 2012 collection at the Arta Gallery in Toronto. The brand’s trend expert Liz Chin and lead make-up artist Grace Lee were present at the launch to go over the new products and demonstrate the new looks on models.

For fall 2012, Maybelline recommends a lot of neutral shades.

Maybelline’s new shades for eyes, lips and nails accompany the trends seen on the runways during the fall/winter 2012 fashion weeks. The key looks are Golden Eye, Striking Strokes, Dark Angel and Barely There.

The Golden Eye focuses on a neutral face with bold eyes. To achieve this look, Maybelline suggests a neutral base, a hint of colour on the cheeks and neutral lips, with a bold combination of eye colour starting with a darker shade on the tip and a lighter blend over the crease. Add liner and mascara to complete the look.

Striking Strokes focuses on the black liner in a more retro fashion. Rather than highlighting the eye with eyeshadow, use neutrals on the face and add the retro line around the eye and on the crease. Alternatively, use the liner only: apply and smudge it, dragging the dark outwards around the eye.

Maybelline’s new lip colours are rich and intense, making them fit perfectly with the Dark Angel trend. When doing a bold lip, go for a natural face with subtle bronzer for a glow, but keep the eyes natural to balance the dark lips.

Barely There enhances the natural look and its freshness. Maybelline recommends natural colours to achieve this look, using a fresh blush for the apples of the cheek, a subtle liner around the eyes and a soft lip colour.

Models showcase some of Maybelline's fall/winter looks at the event.
