It’s almost fall: back to work for some and, for many of us, time for a new look and hairstyle. So why not indulge in an all-inclusive Yorkville salon experience?

Haartek Salon’s prime location at 55 Bloor Street West is just one reason why this established hair and beauty destination attracts a growing and diverse clientele. The recently renovated venue has large windows overlooking Charles Street West that brighten Haartek’s sleek and pristine space, which it has called home for the last three years.

Owners of Haartek Salon: Cosimo Panetta and Remo Bot.

Salon’s unique name is a combination of the words “haar” – meaning “hair” in Dutch – and “tek” – in reference to the word “tech”.

Cosimo Panetta has 32 years in the hairstyling industry and has been the co-owner of Haartek since its inception in 1987 on Scollard Street.

“Our staff has always been like a family,” says Panetta, who takes pride in the warm atmosphere created by his close-knit team.

There is no dress code, thus emphasizing individual creativity, he says. Above all, what keeps patrons returning is the essential communication between stylists and clients, he adds.

“What brings the most satisfaction is the complete understanding of the client’s wants and needs in terms of their look and lifestyle.”

Each of Haartek’s staff of 18 has expertise in all hairstyling areas, including chemical treatments, cuts and colour. Here, colour is treated as a science, with careful attention to the subtlety of layering.

The hair-colouring station is set up like a bar, where exact shades are concocted using premium Goldwell and Schwarzkopf products and the new ammonia‑free Elumen Hair Colour, which, Panetta notes, is non-allergenic and is recommended for covering greys.

While fall 2011 heralds a return to deeper, richer tones, Panetta suggests the daring may be apt to test out an embellishment with Great Lengths hair extensions or, perhaps, trendy feather and tinsel add-ons.

While visiting the salon, guests can also schedule an O.P.I. mani-pedi, indulge in a customized Dermalogica facial, or choose from an assortment of aesthetic services and treatments.

Haartek has been featured on TV shows, such as CityLine and The New Attitude, and various magazines, including Chatelaine, Canadian Living and Toronto Life.

Women’s cuts start at $50. Colour treatments start at $60. Discounts are also available for full-time students with I.D.
