Burberry is always one of the most anticipated shows of the London Fashion Week (LFW).

This year, over 1,500 guests attended the Burberry Prorsum spring/summer 2012 womenswear show in London’s Hyde Park, making it a jam-packed venue.

Many major celebrities were spotted in the front row for the London-based brand, including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Sienna Miller, Rachel Zoe, Kanye West, Ellie Goulding, Andy Murray, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, and the most influential woman in the fashion world herself, Anna Wintour.

But this year, even if you weren’t rubbing shoulders with the fashion elite, Burberry gave fans and online followers an all-access pass, by streaming HD live video on Facebook and YouTube.

Pictures of every look from the show were also featured in the first Tweetwalk before they even hit the runway! Burberry’s Twitter followers could see the photos of the models backstage, and British photographer Mike Kus continuously updated Burberry’s Instagram account, bringing the fashion show into the 21st century.

Burberry’s team is always an innovator when it comes to social media strategies. They had streamed their last collection live in Piccadilly Circus, so there was already excitement and anticipation as to what they would do with the social platforms this year.

As a jazzy “I Put a Spell on You” piped through the speakers, Burberry mesmerized the crowd with dark purple, yellow, turquoise and burgundy coats, and elegant long skirts, paired with chunky brown wedges, synched belts and pom-pom hats.

Oversized parkas, cropped hooded jackets, and an array of geometric prints on dresses, jackets and skirts made their way down the runway with whipstick bags and alligator clutches.

The classic trench stood out this season with stripes, canvas check, deep purple and bright turquoise. The striped pencil skirts and drapery on the dresses showed a return to feminine lines and silhouettes for next season.

This latest collection is paving the way for another successful season for Burberry, whose sales were reported to have gone up by 30 per cent. The show put “a spell on” me as soon as the music began and first model came out on the runway.

It is great to see Christopher Bailey constantly reinventing the brand, by revamping the signature khaki trench coats with an element of fun, funk and quirk via pompon hats, stripes and bright colours. A wonderful burst of sparkly confetti at the end, as Christopher Bailey took a well-deserved bow, was the perfect way to conclude a great show.
